2014 Aussie Millions - Event #10: $1,100 No Limit Holdem Mix-Max Event Live Updates

Michael Wywrot winsDale Marsland Eliminated in 2nd Place ($24,000); Michael Wywrot Wins ($40,000)!

Canadian Michael Wywrot has spoilt the party for local Dale Marsland as the Mix-Max Event has been brought to an end in the wee hours of the morning.

Wywrot gained the advantage in the early stages before the final hand would see Marsland raise the button, before Wywrot three-bet. Marsland four-bet in position, Wywrot moved all in and Marsland thought briefly before making the call.

Marsland: K heartsQ hearts
Wywrot: A heartsK diams

Marsland was dominated and couldn't recover as the final board was spread A clubs9 hearts5 clubs6 clubs6 spades. Marsland is one of the most successful players in the country over the last few years. He narrowly misses the title but still pockets $24,000 in prize money.

Meanwhile the Aussie Millions gold ring will go in the hands of Michael Wywrot along with $40,000 in prize money. Congratulations!

1st: Michael Wywrot - $40,000
2nd: Dale Marsland - $24,000
3rd: Adrian Attenborough - $10,000
4th: Dathan Kuppit - $10,000
5th: Tamara Volkhoff - $4,000
6th: Geoff Mooney - $4,000
7th: George Balandinos - $4,000
8th: Ryan Otto - $4,000

Marsland Moves On

Dale Marsland has secured his place in the final with the elimination of Adrian Attenborough. The chips were in preflop with Marsland's K clubsQ hearts racing with the pocket fives of Attenborough.

The board would run out K diams7 diamsJ spades8 spades4 hearts to give Marsland the pot and eliminate Attenborough in 3rd place for $10,000.

So it's Dale Marsland vs Michael Wywrot in the final for the Aussie Millions gold ring and $40,000 in prize money! Wywrot has carried through 509,000 for a slight edge against Marsland's 490,000 as the cards are now back in the air!

Dathan Departs

Dathan Kuppit entered the heads-up phase of this tournament as the number one seed, but his journey has ended at the semi-final stage.

Michael Wywrot was able to wrestle the chip lead before Kuppit made a preflop move with Q hearts3 hearts. Wywrot called with 6 hearts6 diams and the pair was good on the board of 10 hearts10 diams10 clubs5 spades5 hearts.

Kuppit collected $10,000 for his time as Wywrot advanced to the final.

In the other semi, Dale Marsland had a chance to progress when he held 10 diams8 hearts against Adrian Attenborough's Q spadesJ clubs. A queen on the flop would see Attenborough double through to even up the chip counts.

Kuppit Advances

It took some time, but Dathan Kuppit finally got the better of a determined Tamara Volkhoff to advance to the semi finals.

Volkhoff will pick up $4,000 for her efforts in the Mix-Max Event.

That leaves the semi-final line up as follows:

Michael Wywrot (279,000) vs Dathan Kuppit (230,500)

Dale Marsland (249,500) vs Adrian Attenborough (240,500)

The semi-final matches will be under way shortly.

Wywrot over the Moon

Michael Wywrot has won a tough match with Geoff Mooney to progress to the semi finals.

Wywrot won a big race with ace-jack against pocket fives, before finishing off the job with the same hand, ace-jack, against Mooney's king-seven.

That just leaves the one match remaining with the #8 seed Tamara Volkhoff putting up a great fight against the #1 seed Dathan Kuppit.

Marsland Through

Dale Marsland has defeated George Balandinos to progress to the semis. The details of the final hand were recalled to us, but it sounds like Balandinos was getting short when he shoved J-6 and Marsland took it on with A clubs2 clubs. The board brought no help for Balandinos to see him eliminated for a $4,000 collect.

Otto First Out

The first match decided in the heads-up stage was also the most evenly matched in terms of chips as Adrian Attenborough has defeated Ryan Otto to progress to the next round.

Otto was already a little fortunate to double up after his second pair, improved to two pair on the turn to better Attenborough's flopped top pair.

Moments later they were at it again as Attenborough three-bet, Otto shoved all in with pocket sixes and Attenborough called with pocket nines. The board bricked out and Otto was sent to the cashier to collect $4,000.

Down to the Last Eight

A field of exactly 100 players took their seats this afternoon for the $1,100 Mix-Max Event.

The event played as a normal full ring MTT event before switching to six-handed at 36 players. One by one they dropped away until eight players remained. At that point they were in the money and would play the rest of the tournament in a series of heads-up matches.

The final eight players have now been decided and have been seeded as follows:

1: Dathan Kuppin - 181,000
2. Michael Wywrot - 180,500
3. Dale Marsland - 142,600
4. Adrian Attenborough - 130,900
5. Ryan Otto - 109,500
6. George Balandinos - 106,900
7. Geoff Mooney - 98,100
8. Tamara Volkhoff - 49,600

So that means our quarter final heads-up matches will be as follows:

Dathan Kuppin (1) vs Tamara Volkhoff (8)
Michael Wywrot (2) vs Geoff Mooney (7)
Dale Marsland (3) vs George Balandinos (6)
Adrian Attenborough (4) vs Ryan Otto (5)

1st: $40,000
2nd: $24,000
3rd-4th: $10,000
5th-8th: $4,000

The quarter finals matches are now under way and we'll provide regular updates of results here throughout the evening.
