ANZPT Sydney: Pinzone nails Day 1b chip lead

March 21st 2014 By Heath "TassieDevil" Chick

The Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) Sydney Main Event continued on Friday at The Star with Day 1b of the $2,200 Main Event attracting a strong field of 247 entrants. That took the total number to 458 players, which is another solid number for this event. It’s just two players less than last year and continues a great trend of consistency for this event and the ANZPT.

The top 54 players will finish in the money, with a min-cash worth $3,650 while our eventual champion will take home a whopping $225,300 in prize money.

It was a highly-talented line up today that included the likes of Dennis Huntly, Todor Kondevski, Nam Le, John Maklouf, Ricky Kroesen, Michel Bouskila, Nathan Gubieski, Matthew Wakeman, Brendon Rubie, Ash Mason, Jesse McKenzie, Ben McLean, Dale Marsland, Patrick Healy, Dean Blatt, Dan Neilson, Errolyn Strang, Oliver Gill, former ANZPT Gold Coast champ Peter Matusik, previous Aussie Millions Main Event winner David Gorr, Australian Poker Hall of Famer Gary Benson, WSOP bracelet winner Christina Pie, ANZ Player of the Year leader Sal Fazzino and Full Tilt Ambassador Liam O'Rourke. A couple of late arrivals also included 2005 World Champion Joe Hachem and his brother, two-time ANZ Player of the Year, Tony Hachem.

Some of the big names came and went, with Marcel Naboulsi, Nathan Davis, Adrian Attenborough and Michael Pinzone all contending for the end-of-day chip lead.

Adrian Attenborough won an Aussie Millions gold ring earlier this year and he looked set to snatch the chip lead when he won a big pot late in the day with pocket kings against ace-king, however he was pipped at the post by Michael Pinzone.
