Crown Poker Championship: Schedule with re-vamped structures begins soon

April 19th 2014 By Poker Asia Pacific Staff

Just a few days ago we brought you the announcement of the full 2014 ANZPT Melbourne schedule. Before that tournament takes centre stage in late August, Melbourne will play host to a brand-new tournament – the Crown Poker Championship, which begins this coming Wednesday.

It is no secret that Crown Poker in Melbourne, Australia plays host to some of the biggest poker tournaments in the world such as the Aussie Millions and the WSOP APAC. These tournaments are clearly aimed at your world-wide high rollers and some of the best players in the world.

Unless you win a satellite online or at Crown Melbourne, the $10,000 buy-in of these tournaments is generally out of reach for the aspiring punter.

That’s where the 2014 Crown Poker Championship comes in.

Running from Wednesday, April 23rd – Sunday, May 4th, the inaugural Crown Poker Championship is a chance for low-stakes grinders to play in world-class poker events. We don’t say “world-class” lightly either.

Everyone knows that when a casino calls a tournament a “deep stack”, “super stack” or “mega stack”, what they really mean is that the event starts off deep and turns into a turbo event later in the tournament. Crown Poker TD Joel Williams has addressed this issue as he recently changed the structures to better suit the demands of the modern player.

“The structures for the upcoming Crown Poker Championship have been completely re-written, re-jigged, re-vamped and re-vitalised,” it was announced on the Crown Poker Facebook page.

The main aspects of the structures that were fixed include taking out the short 20 minute levels out of most of the events, increasing the 25-minute levels of some events to 30 minutes and having most tournaments run with 40-minute levels for the majority of the event. This is a great move for events with buy-ins as low as $150 and really gives players some bang for their buck.

One of the highlights on the 2014 Crown Poker Championship schedule include Event 1: $150 Accumulator which features a $50K guaranteed prize pool. The accumulator is the opening event on the schedule, kicking off on Wednesday evening and featuring four Day 1 flights. This runs in Crown Poker’s repechage / accumulator format which sees players able to partake in multiple Day 1 flights and anyone who survives multiple flights will have their stacks combined on Day 2.

Also sure to keep punters happy includes Event 2: $350 NLHE Shotclock Terminator, Event 3: $350 NLHE Deepstack, Event 6: $500 NLHE 6-Max and Event 8: $350 7-Game Mixed.

Of course, the tournament all the players will be hitting the Crown Poker Room for is the $1,100 Crown Poker Championship Main Event. Beginning on Friday, May 2nd and running with two Day 1 flights (Flight 2 on Saturday), the Main Event allows players who were eliminated on Day 1a to re-enter on Day 1b. There is four hours late registration on each Day 1, with players starting with 20,000 in chips and levels lasting 40 minutes on Day 1, 60 minutes on Day 2 and 75 minutes at the final table. Big prize pool expected, so don’t miss it!
